Manchester United humiliated as they are thrashed 6-1 at home by Tottenham

Jose Mourinho exacted a stunning revenge on the side who sacked him in 2018, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils endured a nightmare at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.

Manchester United got off to a dream start as they were awarded a penalty after just 23 seconds. Anthony Martial was fouled by Davinson Sanchez and Bruno Fernandes calmly found the bottom corner.

Spurs got their leveller just two minutes later as Tanguy Ndombele scored from close range after some shoddy defending from Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw. The fast opening at Old Trafford continued as Spurs scored a second in the seventh minute as Kane’s quick free-kick played Son in and made no mistake with the opportunity. And the drama kept on coming as United were reduced to ten men when Anthony Martial saw red for lashing out with a slap on Erik Lamela before a Tottenham corner.

Lamela appeared to push Martial in the face first, but a VAR explanation stated: “The VAR’s view was that Martial was a red card for raising the arm and an act of violent conduct, and not a clear error. “But the VAR also didn’t think that what Lamela did warranted a red, which is why he didn’t recommend Anthony going to the RRA [referee review area]. “If Anthony Taylor had given nothing / not seen it, the VAR could send him to the RRA and he could given both a yellow, Lamela a yellow and Martial a red, or given both a red.”

Three minutes later Spurs made it three as Kane got on the scoresheet, following a terrible defending from United as Bailly played a loose ball, Kane won it back and was then on hand to fire home after Son had set him up. United were in utter disarray and Spurs made it 4-1 in the 37th minute. Serge Aurier was allowed far too much space down the right and he crossed for Son who rolled home from close range.

Half-time did not bring any respite as Aurier picked his spot in the 51st minute to make it 5-1 after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg sliced United open. It got even worse for the hosts as they gave away a penalty of their own later on when Pogba brought down substitute Ben Davies in the area.

Kane rattled it into the top-left corner to make it 6-1 – the game’s final score.
The weekend with lots of surprises and huge goal lines.

Chelsea saw off Crystal palace by 4-0, as the new signing Ben Chiwell was instrumental in the win.

Everton also had a better of Brighton with a 4-2 win while Leeds held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw.
